Graduate and Medical Students
Graduate Student, Biomedical Engineering
Alex is an M.S. student in the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science. He graduated from the Ohio State University in 2017 with a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, with specializations in biomaterials and polymers. His research at CCHMC is focused on preclinical studies involving diffusion MRI with hyperpolarized xenon-129 gas. Outside of school and his work at Children’s, Alex can often be found glued to the nearest screen playing the Cleveland Indians.
Chamindu is a PhD student in the Department of Physics at the University of Cincinnati. He graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2015 with a B.S. specializing in Physics. His current research investigates the breathing energy of the neonates using the ultrashort echo-time (UTE) MRI and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Besides from research, Chamindu enjoys photography and playing cricket.
Xuefeng Cao is a PhD student in Physics Department at University of Cincinnati and the Center for Pulmonary Imaging Research at CCHMC. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Nankai University in China in High Energy Physics . His current research is focused on designing pulse sequence and developing reconstruction methods for using hyperpolarized helium-3 and xenon-129 MRI to study neonatal pulmonary disease and lung microstructure. On the other side, Xuefeng enjoys photography and a variety of sports.
